Stranded on the tiny outcrop of islands in the stormy North Atlantic
Ocean, Antonia's formative years are spent in the care of kindly but
over-protective spinster sisters. The harsh environment is a fitting
background for the age-old Viking customs and sagas that become part of
Antonia's everyday life.
However, while she eventually learns to adapt to her new world, she can
never resolve her feelings of abandonment or stop wondering if she will
ever see her parents again.
Antonia's compelling story continues in Australia where the
long-awaited reunion with her mother does not turn out as planned. The
cultural shock of the Australian way of life, and the curious parenting
style of her
domineering mother results in an ever-widening gap in their
relationship.
It is only on a visit to the Faroe Islands forty years later that
Antonia can unravel her childhood memories and attempt to explain her
mother's motives for sending her only child away.
Faeroes' Child will linger in your memory long after the last page.
'The threads of any life are significant,
but few have the potency that Antonia Stephenson has captured in telling
her own remarkable story.' Maggie Hamilton, author of Coming Home; Love Your Work, Reclaim Your Life; and Magic of the Moment
